But I can't think of another car that has such an inexpensive laser cut key with built in remote fob.
Less than $80 and that included the cutting. Now, just have to program the sumbitch....

Ah yes the Konami Key Code.
Key one in.
Car on.
Car off.
Key two in.
Car on.
Car off.
Car start.
Lock.
Unlock.
A.
B.
Start.
Select.

We have no key one. :((((

I'd imagine the programming will cost the difference, or more.

Y'all fucked.

Yes.
But in Mazda World a key of similar composition (flip out shaft and remote fob) is around $200, plus programming. And if you lose them all, you need TWO to reinitialize the system, or at least two "regular" keys at $50 each, but then you don't have remotes.
Or you can get one $200 key, one $50 key, and add programming.
Gets confusing for customers.

Why in God's name would you pay $80? I realize that's a great price for a fob that's already cut and is easy to program (requires no service visit) but I sell those things routinely for $65.
Anyway, yest, the Cruze is awesome. I miss mine. Drove it the other day and it made me a little sad. I love the space of the Equinox but I miss the buttoned down nature of the Cruze.

We didn't PAY $80, but that's what I charged it out for. ;)

Ah, so. That makes a bit more sense. Still, didn't those things used to be like $300 through VW?
Programming is easy. All we do here is start the car with the OE key and immediately re-start with the new key. The car does the rest.

The plot thickens. That's going to be difficult.

Yeah, Mazdas are the same way, $200+ programming. If you already have TWO you can program additional keys yourself. One or less and you need the laptop....

Really? We haven't had any trouble here with that. And I'm not a service guy. We get the new keys in (already cut) and we take the one key we have, crank, take it out and crank with the new key and it's all good. Is there something I'm missing about these keys?

No idea. All I knows is they sold a used Cruze, and needed a key. I think the original is long gone.

Fair enough. Also, I really like your handle. One of my dream cars is a Trans AM. Someday.

It was mine too. Annnnnnd it'll be a while until its dream-worthy. Right now its kind of in a nightmare status.

Doesn't matter. It may be a labor of love/hate but it's yours and you enjoy it. A buddy of mine recently got a Firehawk TA. It's fantastic. It only had like 6,000 miles on it when he bought it.

Ah, my second favorite body style. Mine's a '77 hardtop that I bought in project status. It's in many many pieces strewn across my garage.

Definition of a project. My '65 Crown Firecoach is in many pieces across my dad's garage. It does run (or it did when parked) and drive but stopping is an issue and something about the electrical bits seems wonky. It's a process.

"So is the Cruze all its hyped up to be?" a friend from work asked me. "Pretty much," I replied.
